Diabetes is a potentially serious and complicated disease that affects many Americans. Actually, 23.6 million people have diabetes in the U.S.; that’s 7.8% of the U.S. population. An even higher number, 57 million, have pre-diabetes. Before people actually develop diabetes, they almost always have “pre-diabetes.” This is when blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed as diabetes.

It is important to understand the symptoms of these illnesses and the differences between colds and the flu so you can take action quickly, if necessary, when you identify symptoms in yourself or your children.

September is a month for getting back into the routine of school as autumn falls upon us. It’s a month for celebrating Labor Day and sneaking in a few more vacation days while the weather is still warm enough. September is also Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
