Diabetes is a potentially serious and complicated disease that affects many Americans. Actually, 23.6 million people have diabetes in the U.S.; that’s 7.8% of the U.S. population. An even higher number, 57 million, have pre-diabetes. Before people actually develop diabetes, they almost always have “pre-diabetes.” This is when blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed as diabetes.
