Dr. Foulks, PHC Physician, Competes in Triathlon

Piedmont HealthCare has many physicians and employees who not only encourage patients to get healthy and fit, but they incorporate the vital elements of diet and exercise into their own lives.

“Being fit and healthy sends a message to my patients when I discuss the topic of diet and exercise,” Piedmont HealthCare Gastroenterologist Dr. Carl Foulks, Jr. said. “They know I practice what I preach.”

Dr. Foulks recently competed in the Statesville Rotary Triathlon for the second year in a row. He plans to keep competing annually.

“I continue to participate because triathlon training has gotten me into the best mental and physical condition of my life,” Dr. Foulks said.

Last year, Dr. Foulks finished 106 out of 213 and improved to finish 42 out of 192 this year. He credits dedicated swim practice as the result of improved times. He actually had to learn how to swim and took lessons during his first year of triathlon.

The next goal for Dr. Foulks is to complete a half ironman event in November in Wilmington. Next year he hopes to have a Piedmont HealthCare team to compete in the Statesville Triathlon.

Lace up your shoes, PHC employees, and get ready for next year! Dr. Foulks hopes to have a Piedmont HealthCare team to compete in the Statesville Triathlon next year!
